A DISUSED former temperance hall near Clapham once used for children's parties is to be converted into a holiday bunk barn.

Craven councillors welcomed the future use of the hall in Keasden, despite some concerns about parking and allowed planning permission for its conversion.

Situated next to the Way of the Roses Coast to Coast cycle path, the barn, with a slate roof, will remain virtually unchanged, but with new timber-framed windows and door and solar panels fitted to its roof.

Applicant Andrew Entwistle told Craven District Council's planning committee that the aim was to provide basic, family-orientated holiday accommodation for up to eight people.

He said, speaking as a camping family, he had struggled to find suitable holiday accommodation geared towards families.

Councillors also heard from a nearby resident who expressed his concerns about the narrow road and the potential conflict with cyclists and parking outside the hall.

Cllr Robert Mason (Cons) said he had attended parties at the hall as a child and welcomed the building being brought back into use.

And Cllr Chris Harbron (Cons) said he thought it was the best possible opportunity for the building to be saved.

"We are not talking about major luxury here and I think it is quite possibly the best bet for this dwelling's future," he said.
