A WEDDING guest's nose was broken in four places in an unprovoked attack at a party to celebrate the marriage, a jury has heard.

Terry Booker told Bradford Crown Court he was "out like a light" after he was knocked to the ground and suffered "a horrendous punch or kick" as he tried to get back to his feet.

Daniel Hathaway, 24, of Chapel Road, Steeton, and James Thompson, 32, of Spring Bank, Keighley, deny assaulting Mr Booker and causing him actual bodily harm on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Mr Booker was attending the wedding day of his stepson, Sean Gray, and his bride, Emma Grimshaw, when he was allegedly set upon at 11.30pm by two guests at the Mercure Bradford Bankfield Hotel in Bingley.

Mr Booker said he drank eight pints of Stella lager and drank two shorts on the day of the wedding.

He was standing by the hotel bar, socialising and buying drinks for guests, just before he was assaulted.

"We'd all had a very good day," he told the court.

He said he set off to walk the few yards to where his wife Sue and stepson, Matthew Driver, were standing.

A man called Wayne then warned: "He's coming at you from behind."

Mr Booker said he was struck by a male in a blue shirt who was standing to one side of him.

"It happened that quickly, and I was on the floor and unconscious, and the next thing that I can remember is waking up with police all around," he told the jury.

Mr Booker attended Airedale Hospital the next day and was sent to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

His injuries included four fractures to his nose, a split lip, two black eyes and lumps to his head.

He said he still had double vision and his nose was now bent.

Mr Booker said the attack "spoiled a good day."

"I can't tell you who hit me. I can't tell you who kicked me. There is not a lot I can remember once it started," he said.

He denied punching Thompson in the face in an unprovoked attack, or seizing Matthew Driver round the neck.

Mr Booker said Mr Driver had become agitated, waving his arms and pushing his mother away.

He thought it was time to take him home, rather than spoil the evening for anyone else.

The trial continues.
