A SECOND wedding guest on trial for allegedly attacking the bridegroom's stepfather in the bar after the ceremony has been cleared of the offence.

It took the jury at Bradford Crown Court under half an hour to acquit Daniel Hathaway of assaulting Terry Booker and causing him actual bodily harm at the Mercure Bradford Bankfield Hotel at 11.30pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Yesterday, Hathaway's co-accused, James Thompson, 32, of Spring Bank, Keighley, was found not guilty of the offence on the direction of the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC.

The judge said at the close of the prosecution case that there was no evidence that Thompson had done anything wrong.

And today, Hathaway's case, that he too never touched Mr Booker, was accepted by the jury.

Hathaway, 24, of Chapel Road, Steeton, was then discharged from the dock.

Mr Booker suffered a broken nose, black eyes, a cut lip and lumps to his head when he was knocked to the ground and assaulted after attending the wedding of his stepson, Sean Gray, to Emma Grimshaw at the hotel earlier that day.

He told the court he sustained four fractures to his nose. He still had double vision and was being treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Mr Booker said he was "out like a light" after he was knocked to the ground and kicked or punched as he tried to get back on to his feet.

He told the jury he did not see who attacked him.

He said he was socialising with guests and buying drinks before he was set upon.

Hathaway, a close friend of Mr Gray, told the court he attended the civil marriage ceremony as well as the evening buffet and disco.

He went to grab Mr Booker because he was being aggressive towards his stepson, Matthew Driver, who has learning difficulties and was becoming agitated.

Hathaway said he was immediately dragged out of the bar by his friend.

"I never even touched Mr Booker and I did not see what happened to him," he said.

He said he regretted becoming involved in the family argument because it had spoilt Mr Gray's wedding day.
