A FAMILY from Glusburn who scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Manorlands have announced the results of a pair of collections held to further boost their charity total.

The group, which is called Team Angus in memory of Angus Smith who died last February aged 88, tackled the 5,895-metre peak on New Year's Day.

Mr Smith was cared for in Manorlands. His daughter, Julie Whitaker, did the Kilimanjaro trek with husband Michael and sons Paul, Sam and Matthew. The family are now on target to raise a grand total of about £17,000 for the hospice.

Mrs Whitaker said: "We collected at both the Scroggling the Holly and Torchlight Procession events held in Haworth before Christmas. The totals raised were £197 at Scroggling the Holly and £170 at the Torchlight Procession."

She said she was now in the process of creating a presentation about Team Angus's fundraising challenges and the demanding mountain climb itself.

Mrs Whitaker added: "I intend to show the presentation to any interested parties, in the hope that it will highlight the continuing need for donations, so Manorlands can carry on offering its incredible care to our community."

She offered her thanks to friends, family members and local businesses who had contributed towards Team Angus's fundraising drive.
