PUPILS at St Stephen's School, Skipton, have been learning about other cultures.

Reception children tasted traditional foods from around the world that reflected their families' culture.

They sampled fare from Poland, the Philippines and Spain.

And to celebrate Chinese New Year, the children welcomed Panni Loh from arts and heritage charity Settle Stories.

This year is the year of monkey - the ninth of the 12 animals in the recurring 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle.

A school spokesman said: "It was a really interesting and engaging afternoon where the children learnt the importance of Chinese New Year through a story about monkeys, a mango tree and Chinese New Year.

"This was followed by a lesson in Chinese brush painting."
