A GROUP set up four years ago to help people in and around Keighley with cancer now has charity status.

Keighley and Airedale Cancer Support, which was based in Keighley Civic Centre, has also moved home.

However, it has not moved far and is now on the ground floor of New Devonshire House in Devonshire Street.

Rachael Moorhouse, one of the organisation's founders, said having charity status will make it easier to apply for extra funds.

"That means eventually we'll be able to offer more services to people, and offer these services free at the point of contact," she added.

The charity, which helps both people with cancer and their carers, provides a drop-in facility on Thursdays from 10am to 2pm, where people can talk to others with similar experiences.

It also opens from 9am to 3pm on Wednesdays, when it provides holistic therapies on an appointment basis.

Ms Moorhouse, who has herself recovered from breast cancer, said: "We really like where we are now.

"We're looking for businesses interested in sponsoring us. Demand is increasing, which is one of the reasons we want to expand. We would like to offer 'knit and natter' sessions and mindfulness groups.

"We run everything as cheaply as we can, but we are volunteer-led and still have to pay for rent and volunteers' expenses."
