A DRINK driver who overturned his car near Cracoe was found by police hiding behind a tree, heard magistrates.

Daryl Deugo, 27, who the court heard had a previous drink-drive offence, was banned from driving for three years and four months by the Skipton court.

The court heard Deugo, of Little Brook, Skipton, asked a woman to call emergency services after crashing on the B6265 in the early hours of September 14.

When police arrived, they found the blue Vauxhall Astra on its roof and Deugo hiding behind a tree.

Deugo, who had suffered minor injuries, admitted drinking three cans of Carlsberg lager and following a positive roadside breath test, was taken to the police station. A further test revealed he had 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Deugo, who appeared in court unrepresented, admitted drink driving, but claimed it was the weather conditions at the time and not the fact he had been drinking that had caused him to lose control of his car.

He had previously been banned for 20 months in 2007 for drink driving by Carlisle Magistrates Court, the court was told.

Magistrates banned him for 40 months and fined him £276 with costs of £85 and surcharge of £30. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by a quarter.
