THE Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway played host to wedding celebrations for Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armistead.

Lizzie married husband Philip Deignan at a church in her hometown of Otley last month.

And she decided, just like her sister did on her wedding day ten years earlier, to pay a visit to the steam railway to mark the occasion.

"Obviously we made a nice impression with her sister ten years earlier, so Lizzie wanted to visit the steam railway on her wedding day too," said Stephen Walker, business manager of the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.

After getting married in Otley, Lizzie, Philip and the wedding party arrived at the Bolton Abbey Railway Station in three vintage buses.

A total of 120 guests and the wedding party took part in a photo shoot and enjoyed a return journey on the train that included drinks and biscuits before they all moved on to the Cavendish Pavillion at Bolton Abbey for a reception.

"It was really nice that Lizzie choose to do this with us," added Mr Walker. "It was a super afternoon, and as with all brides she was a bit late."
