BANDS, balloons and bouncy castles formed part of the Embsay-with-Eastby Festival on Saturday.

The event was held at Manby Castle, where residents from the two villages enjoyed a family day out.

Entertainment included four live bands, clowns, a barbecue, balloon artists, face painting, a tombola and wine, beer and cheese tasting.

Air guitar competitions went down particularly well and both adults and children had the chance to win a real guitar.

The prize instrument given to the adults featured part of a guitar which once belonged to legend Jimi Hendrix, and was donated by Malcolm Crossley.

This is the first time such an event has been held in Embsay and follows on from fundraising garden parties in previous years.

Organisers Shona Watson, Frank Chute and Wendy Dolan have been planning the event for months and sold 500 tickets to villagers.

The event raised £2,500 for charity. Of this, £250 will go to St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds and a small amount will go to the village's playgroup. The lion's share - more than £2,000 - will go to Cancer Research UK.
