PUPILS and staff at Skipton Girls' High School are celebrating after achieving the Healthy Schools Status.

The school was presented with its award by Katharine Bruce, general advisor and healthy schools leader for the North Yorkshire Children and Young People's Service.

High school co-ordinator, Fiona McMillan, said: "Applying for and achieving Healthy Schools Status has recognised how much work we have been doing to promote the health and well-being of our students."

The Healthy Schools programme is part of a national scheme that includes minimum standards in healthy eating, physical activity, personal, social and health education and the overall well-being of pupils.

Headteacher Jan Renou added: "The health and well-being of our students is of great importance to us and underpins our aims to ensure that our students are successful, confident learners."
