BRAINY Barlickers emerged as the most mathematically-minded residents in a survey of three East Lancashire towns.
Barnoldswick, Padiham and Great Harwood took part in a "Test the Town Challenge" during Adult Learners' Week, to raise awareness of adult qualifications in English and maths.
Test the Town asked people to complete a fun quiz, which consisted of 20 maths and English questions. This was then put into a free prize draw for a DVD player.
More than 450 test papers were completed and the results showed that Barnoldswick had the most maths questions correctly answered, Padiham had the best score for punctuation, while Great Harwood had the highest score for grammar.
A celebratory event was held at the Higher Trapp Country House Hotel, in Simonstone, last week, and the chairman of Barnoldswick Town Council, Maureen Davis, and the mayors of Burnley and Padiham were presented with trophies on behalf of their towns.
In addition, there was an inter-town quiz held on the night with a mixture of questions covering maths, English and general knowledge and this was won by Padiham.
