A FIRE which engulfed a car in Barnoldswick is not being treated as suspicious by police.

The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service reported fire engines from Barnoldswick and Earby were called to a car fire on Bancroft Fold, Barnoldswick, at 11.58pm on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the fire service: "Firefighters used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus sets to extinguish the fire which is believed to have been started deliberately. No injuries were reported and a joint police and fire investigation is under way."

A spokesman from the fire service said it took crews approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Aiden Wellock, from Northern Images Photography in Barnoldswick, arrived at the scene shortly after midnight.

"I arrived about halfway through and three other bystanders were around," said Mr Wellock. "I asked them what they knew and they only heard the bang of the wheels exploding and came out of their house to see what was going on just as the fire service arrived.

"I was told that the burning estate car whilst on fire rolled down the road and hit the front of the Range Rover causing damage to the front of that vehicle."

When the Craven Herald rang the Colne and West Craven Police on Tuesday, a police spokesman said: "It has been deemed that no arson is suspected and the fire is not of a suspicious origin."
