EMBSAY and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is holding a Volunteering Open Day on Saturday.

The heritage steam railway has vacancies to suit most people of all ages and backgrounds, although people do have to be over 16 to train for an operating role.

Saturday's event for prospective volunteers starts at Bolton Abbey Station at 9.30am with introductions and a chance to look around the station, followed by a train to Embsay leaving at 11:10am.

During the journey, prospective recruits will have the chance to see the role of the Guard etc.

Upon arrival at Embsay, potential volunteers will be shown around the workshop building at Embsay and meet representatives of departments such as Locomotive Maintenance, Carriage and Wagon Department and Diesel and Plant to give them a taste of what happens in these areas.

Following a break for lunch at Embsay, the train will return to Bolton Abbey Station ending with a question and answer session when people will be given the opportunity to join the railway and sign up as a volunteer.

There will be time to head back to the various departments to find out more about the work they carry out.

There is no charge for this event although anyone interested does need to let the heritage railway know they are coming by emailing embsay.steam@btinternet.com or telephoning 01756 710614.
