A GROUP of community railway enthusiasts in Craven have helped to mark a dementia awareness day organised by the Alzheimer's Society - by selling cakes at Lancaster Station.
Members of the Leeds-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership, known as The Bentham Line, took part in 'Cupcake Day' as part of their own drive to make the Bentham rail line dementia-friendly.
As well as selling cakes to travellers, raising a total of £91 for the Alzheimer's Society, they also ran an information stall on the station.
Rod Tickner, a co-founder of Dementia Friendly Keighley and vice- chairman of the Community Rail Partnership, said: “We are looking for the whole of the Bentham Line to become dementia friendly and initially three contrasting stations have been identified to spearhead the initiative - Keighley, Bentham and Morecambe.
"As well as being different in size with different levels of staffing and numbers of passengers, each station has unique challenges for those passengers with dementia.”
The Bentham Line was set up in 2006 and has its offices at Bentham Station It works to improve services and develop community links along the line.
