FOR the past two years the gardens in Brooklands School, Skipton have been undergoing huge changes, with what was once a rarely-used space transformed into a vibrant sensory garden by volunteers from Skipton Building Society. The volunteers worked in their free time to create the gardne for the children to learn and play.

As well as volunteering, the team from the building society organised and took part in various fundraising activities in order to complete the project, including Open Gardens, Skipton Sheep Day and Car Boot Sales to name a few. Local businesses including Merrit and Fryers donated equipment and prizes for the fundraising events.

The new sensory garden was officially opened recently by Brooklands headteacher Fran Cracknell and the Mayor of Skipton, Andy Rankine.

Terry Done from Skipton Building Society said a few words on behalf of the volunteers who helped make the project happen.

Following the event, Mr Done said: “ I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of support from colleagues and their families who were really passionate about making a difference in the community.

"I feel very lucky to work for a business that allow us to have the opportunity to get involved in something that makes a real difference to people.

"It has been hard work to get to where we are today but the feeling of satisfaction makes it all worth it. Thank you so much to everyone who helped in any way they could.

"It all made the difference.”
