A care home in Thornton in Craven has been again classed overall as good after an inspection by regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Staff at Anchor’s Thornton Hill on Church Road, which cares for up to 52 residents, were celebrating this week after receiving the accolade.

The home was praised by the CQC following the inspection which took place in August. Care homes are now classed as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.

Thornton Hill Manager Debbie Marples said everyone at the home was thrilled because they had worked so hard to maintain high standards of care. She said: “We have worked hard to make Thornton Hill a good care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is wonderful. We are proud of the care we provide, of the meals which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients and of the wide variety of meaningful activities enjoyed by our residents.

“Anchor has a specialist dementia care team so we also know how to care for people living with the condition so they lead as fulfilling a life as possible.

“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes are the best in the country. We’re so pleased to be classed as a good care home - we’ll be celebrating this success.”

The CQC inspection report, which can be found on the regulator’s website, highlighted the following examples of high standards of care at Thornton Hill: “On the day of inspection we spoke with a visiting district nurse who confirmed staff responded quickly to people not being well.

One person said of the staff, "They are great. They always have a smile."

Another resident said,"We have parties here, they are great fun. I like to have my hair done as well."
