A SUCCESSFUL Christmas coffee morning was held at Langcliffe Village Institute in early December.

The Institute Committee ran three stalls; a cake stall, tombola and Christmas Cafe. Church of St John the Evangelist members ran a Christmas craft stall, a Name the Donkey stall and hamper raffle.

Eric Parker, chairman of the Institute Committee, said: "I was delighted by the turnout and the support received from the village and members of the Settle Amateur Operatic Society. The atmosphere was great. It was a super start to Christmas in the village."

Others stallholders raised funds for charity, including Deanna Craven who raised money for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Judith Allinson who sold photograph cards to raise funds for The Rainforest Fund Project, Settle.

Iris Melkinson, who raised £2,600 last year, had a stall selling her own pickles, jams and chutneys alongside donated items. She splits whatever she makes between Cancer Care and St John's Hospice.

Maureen's Garden laid on a display of garden related items, including wreaths and other Christmas decorations.

Settle Music had a stall manned by Alan Evans. He had a wide range of gifts, all musically themed, that proved popular.

Mick Arbour, Chris and Rachel from Holly Cottage, Brian Meredith, Helen Jarvis, Stephen Dawson and Angela Barton were the winners of the church hamper raffle.
