OWNERS of a South Craven kennels are over the moon after a very successful outing to the world’s biggest dog show, Crufts - which saw them pick up six rosettes, including two firsts.

Suzanne and Sedat Bilgin, of Metadale Kennels in Cononley, took seven dachshunds - including long haired, and miniature, to the four day event held at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

The event - billed as the world’s greatest dog show - is now in its 127th year and attracted more than 160,000 spectators, and 20,000 dogs from all over the world. It was also televised to a world wide audience of millions, with a line up of presenters, headed by Clare Balding.

And, although they have several champions at home in Cononley, Suzanne and Sedat took a selection of youngsters and puppies, all owned by Suzanne and her mother, Barbara Metcalfe.

Together, the dogs won two firsts, two seconds, and two thirds, in their respective classes, making their owners very proud and putting the dogs on the way to even greater success in the future.

“They were all big classes with dogs travelling from all the world,” said Suzanne. “One lady had travelled for three days from Russia with her dogs and didn’t manage to win anything, so I was very proud of our Metadale team from Cononley who all showed really well and enjoyed their day meeting people and lots of different dogs.”

All of the dogs entered at the event, which saw a whippet, Tease, crowned best in show, and an English pointer,Chilli, named reserve champion, will have had to qualify to even take part in the contest by winning at championships across the country.

Metadale Midsummer Dream, also known as Yasmin, was first in the longhaired dachshund, ‘limit bitch’ class; while Mateus (Tao), was placed second in the ‘post graduate’ dog section.

Miniature longhair, Ramesses (Ramsey) was third ‘puppy dog’, and Brunnhilde (Hilda) was also third, in ‘puppy bitch’.

Ariadne (Roxy) picked up a first in the ‘special yearling bitch’ class. In the miniature smooth haired dachshunds Metadale Something Special (Indy) was second in the Puppy Bitch class. Did you have a winner at Crufts? email news@cravenherald.co.uk
