A SKIPTON man who drove his car into a wall on his way home from a charity event was over the drink-drive limit, heard magistrates.
Benjamin Reece, 27, stayed with his vehicle and called the police himself, after colliding with a wall on the A65 at Gargrave, the court heard last Friday.
Reece, who injured his forehead in the collision, provided a positive road side breath test and was taken to the police station where he was found to have 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.
The court was told Reece had not meant to drive home from the event in Coniston and had little recollection of driving off in his car.
A man of previous good character, Reece, of Upper Union Street, admitted drink driving and received an 18 month ban. He was also fined £388 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £38. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 18 weeks.
