AHEAD of their Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this weekend Skipton firefighters have sealed their support for children's charity Candlelighters with the launching of a 'wrap' on the side of one of their fire engines.

From now on, whenever the fire engine is used and driven across North Yorkshire, it will be boosting awareness and support of the Yorkshire based charity, Candlelighters.

The Skipton team has been raising money for Candlelighters for the last year in support of five year old, William, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2017, and on Sunday will be joined by Skipton police officers as they take on Whernside, Penyghent and Ingleborough in a Walk for William.

The Skipton team has taken on several fundraising events, including walking up Ben Nevis, marathon on a treadmill, and open days at the fire station.

Attending last week's unveiling, was William’s family, Candlelighters staff and Chairman of North Yorkshire County Council, Cllr Robert Windass.

Cllr Windass, who will support Candlelighters during his year in office, used to be a firefighter.

Gina from Candlelighters said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Skipton Fire Service, they have gone above and beyond with their efforts to raise awareness and funds for Candlelighters. We really appreciate everything they have done and we are so excited for the Candlelighters branded fire engine to be out n the roads."

Some 30 firefighters and police officers across North Yorkshire will be taking part in Sunday's Walk for William, support them online at: justgiving.com/fundraising/Martin-Hughes34
