SIR - Your article (Concerns mean caravan site proposals are put on hold, Craven Herald, September 27) is inaccurate and misleading. I did not say anything about site lighting during the planning committee debate when it was agreed to defer a decision until after a site meeting. I believe that comment should be attributed to Cllr Alan Sutcliffe, chairman of the committee. I did however express considerable concern as to the intensification of use which this proposal, if approved, would create in relation to the use of the access drive and related increased levels of hazards at the entry/exit into Whitehills Lane. Whilst the Highway Authority (North Yorkshire County Council) has raised no objection to the proposal, subject to compliance with related visibility conditions, no assurance was given that such conditions could be effectively satisfied. Any regular user of this road will readily acknowledge the material increases in traffic flows and speeds which occur along this stretch of highway. There were also other issues raised by committee members and it was the sum total of such concerns that generated the call for a site visit prior to further consideration of the application.
