A ROYAL British Legion volunteer has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the work of the charity in Lancashire.

At a special ceremony held at the Alma Inn, Laneshawbridge, David Hargreaves was named as winner of the individual award for Support to the Armed Forces Community in the county.

David, from Nelson, who served in the Army for 36 years, said: “I had such a good time while I was serving, that I was determined to give something back to former and current members of the Army, Navy and Air Force once I retired. Volunteering as a caseworker for the British Legion has enabled me to do just that.”

The Legion’s area manager, Alison Bunn, said: “We instituted these awards two years ago in order to recognise the extraordinary commitment of both individuals and organisations across the North West in support of those who have served in the Armed Forces. We simply couldn’t do what we do without their time, skills and enthusiasm.”
