VOLUME was at a premium in Barnoldswick when town criers from across the country arrived to bellow for the Bellman Trophy.

Pleasant weather drew spectators to the town square for the contest, which is held every two years.

There were criers taking part from as far afield as Lincolnshire and south-west England, while a bagpiper representing the Loyal Company of Town Criers provided some musical accompaniment.

The winner came from closer to home, with Otley's Terry Ford taking the top prize.

A Cllr David Whipp said: "Again it was a very colourful spectacle and proved deservedly popular."

The event, which is part of the town council’s events’ programme, was organised by Barnoldswick Town Crier Eliza Mowe.
