A DRIVER who flipped his car over after colliding with a wall on Grassington Road, Skipton was over the drink drive limit, heard magistrates.

The Volkswagen Golf being driven by James Richardson, towards Skipton at around 3.30pm on August 12 slid across the road, colliding with another car coming out of the town, the Skipton court heard on Friday.

Richardson, 37, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the other car suffered from shock and pains in one of her legs, but nothing serious, the court heard. Richardson admitted while still at the scene he was to blame and a breath test revealed he had 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Richardson, a man of previous good character, who admitted drink driving and also driving without due care and attention, had been drinking the night before and had not appreciated he would still be over the limit, the court heard. Richardson, of Main Street, Grassington, was banned from driving for 14 months, fined £323,with costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32. If he completes a drink driver rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 14 weeks.
