KALA SANGAM will celebrate 25 years of music, dance, poetry and visual arts with a free open day of workshops and performances.

Bradford’s intercultural arts centre will host a free events on Friday, October 26 starting at 10am.

Kala Sangam was founded in 1993 by Dr Shripati Upadhyaya and Dr Geetha Upadhyaya with a dream that the organisation would deliver high-quality South Asian arts in a way that was accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Originally based in Leeds, in 1996 the company moved to the Carlisle Business Centre in Bradford before settling in its permanent home in the beautiful Grade II listed St Peter’s House in 2007.

The founders jointly said: “For 25 years this company has been an inclusive place where artists can innovate and create great art which people can enjoy while sharing and celebrating their heritage.”

During the day families will be able to get a free taste of the different classes that are on offer each week at Kala Sangam, including Bhangra music and dance, contemporary dance class and Classical Indian dance.

The day will come to a close at 7pm with a party featuring live music, dance and poetry designed to reflect the company’s rich history.
