PEOPLE will be able to picnic beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Greenberfield Locks, Barnoldswick, thanks to a joint initiative between the town council, Barnoldswick in Bloom, and the Canal and River Trust.

Members of the different organisations gathered recently to official unveil the improved facilities, which include wheelchair and pushchair access. Two tables were paid for out of a grant from the People’s Postcode Lottery, while two more were supplied by the town council. All tables are made from recycled plastic by Burnley firm, Kedel.

Bloom member Lesley Gilbert said: “Greenberfield Locks is one of Barnoldswick’s jewels with many boaters, cyclists and day trippers stopping to enjoy the setting. It is a busy place and the old tables were past their sell by date. I’d like to thank the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for enabling these improvements as well as the Town Council for joining in. Barnoldswick in Bloom has adopted this stretch of the canal and we working with the Canal and River Trust to make it welcoming for all.”
