A NEW eatery serving up wood-fired pizzas is gearing up to open its doors in the city centre.

Yeadon-based Pizza Loco, which cooks what it calls 'proper Neapolitan pizza' in the lungs of a wood-fired mobile locomotive oven, is to set up a permanent base in a vacant unit in the Sunbridgewells tunnels.

A 'coming soon' sign adorns the window of the unit in the complex and a pizza oven has also been installed.

The business has also been posting about the new venture on social media site Instagram.

Sharing pictures of the unit being fitted out, the business, which describes its crust as a "secret blend of three different flours", hinted it would be opening soon and said: "Things are getting quite exciting."

The eatery reached the finals of this year's British Street Food Awards.

Pizza Loco marks a new addition to Sunbridgewells after recent changes in the complex.

The Sunbridge Lounge Tapas Bar and Alibi recently closed their doors, while Ivegate saw the opening of Bar 39, which is part of the development and serves craft ales and cocktails across two floors.

Speaking about the new opening, Graham Hall, of Sunbridgewells, said: "It should be really good.

"It always needed a food concept inside the tunnel - people like to eat and drink."

He said it would be opening in around two weeks time and that another business was also due to open in the unit occupied by the tapas restaurant.

Mr Hall said four shop units are currently vacant in Sunbridgewells, with the rest taken, or about to be.

He said: "We're confident we'll be able to fill them. It's a unique complex, there's nothing like it in the country."

A number of events are due to be held in the tunnels in the run up to the Christmas period. A Halloween-themed night will be held on Wednesday, October 31, and on November 9, 10 and 11, there will be a food and drink festival which will include street food, live music and DJs. And to mark Remembrance Sunday, there will be live music from 1pm until 6pm, a free buffet and a free drink for those in military uniform.

Sunbridgewells will also team up with Midland Hotel to mark its second anniversary with an all-weekend party.

The complex opened its doors back in 2016 to great fanfare.

The £1.9 million scheme was officially opened by Princess Anne, marking another step in Bradford city centre's regeneration following the opening of The Broadway shopping centre in November 2015.

Upcoming openings include Superdrug and Frankie's Burgers in The Broadway and TJ Hughes in the Kirkgate Shopping Centre.

St George's Hall is due to reopen next year and plans are afoot to transform the former Odeon cinema.
