THE tenth annual Bradford Family Learning Festival got off to a great start this weekend, with children taking part in a range of activities across the district.

Activities took place in a number of libraries and venues around the district aimed at helping children and their families learn together.

At the City Library in City Park, children could take part in a variety of construction and art activities, and there was also a retro gaming experience, where children could try their hand at games such as Pac-man and Donkey Kong.

In Bradford Local Studies Library at Margaret McMillan Tower, there was a workshop telling the story of the Bradford Civil War Siege, led by local historian Malcolm Hanson.

At Wrose Library there was a puppet-making workshop and story sessions thanks to Jake Bakes a Monster Cake, which will be touring libraries in the district over the next week.

There is plenty going on over the rest of this week, including monster making workshops at Impressions Gallery on Wednesday and Saturday, workshops at Bradford Peace Museum from Wednesday to Saturday, the Big Draw family drop in session at Cartwright Hall on Thursday, followed by the annual lantern parade around Lister Park on Friday night, and special spooky attractions at Bradford Industrial Museum on Wednesday.

On Friday, Kala Sangam will be celebrating its 25th anniversary of operation in the city centre. There will be a day of free family activities from 11am, including taster sessions for its music, arts and yoga classes and interactive activities perfect for children.

That will be followed by an evening event from 7pm, with performances reflecting the history of the centre, and also talks from people who have been involved with Kala Sangam since the beginning. People are encouraged to book a free place in advance to avoid missing out.
