A MAN had to be taken to hospital last night after his car crashed into the Steeton-Silsden roundabout “at high speed”.

The driver, in a red Skoda, had been travelling along Station Road, Steeton, when it crashed into the roundabout at the junction for the A629 bypass at around 11pm.

A spokesperson for Keighley fire station said the driver “made no attempt to go around the roundabout”.

He said: “The crash was at the roundabout on the bypass, in Station Road.

“The car went straight through the central reservation of the roundabout at high speed.

“I couldn’t believe what he had done, he made no attempt to take the corner and go around the roundabout.

“He had potential head injuries and was taken to Airedale General Hospital.

“When we arrived two council workers had been passing by and got him out of the car, and we assisted paramedics in getting him help and making the vehicle safe.

“It’s like a mini wood on the roundabout, he did well to get his car through.”
