PROUD representatives of Barnoldswick in Bloom travelled to Southport recently for the regional Britain in Bloom awards where they were presented with the town’s ninth Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal.

Judges from Britain in Bloom visited the town in July, and the Barnoldswick team has had a long, three month wait before heading the verdict on this year’s planting.

Highlights of Barnoldswick’s floral features this year, included a ‘Votes For Women’ display celebrating the 100th anniversary of the start of women’s right to vote.

The team also carried off a quarter barrel planter in the Amberol draw from the event held in Southport’s theatre and convention centre.

The ten strong team attending the awards included Barnoldswick Town Council Chairman, Jayne Mills, and bloom volunteer, Councillor Jayne Mills.

Barnoldswick has won Gold Medals in the regional bloom initiative each year since first entering in 2011 and has also won a Silver Gilt and a Gold Medal in the national finals.

team members celebrated the completion of a long term project last weekend, with the opening of a new sensory garden at the town’s Memorial Gardens.

Cllr David Whipp said: “I’m delighted Barnoldswick has struck gold again, more importantly, it’s really good to see people from away appreciating our town and all the work put in by volunteers. I’d like to thank all those who’ve played a part in helping keep Barlick looking so good.”
