SOUTH Craven primary schools created posters to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice.

Children from schools in Silsden, Eastburn, Steeton, Sutton and Addingham created posters detailing the lives and deaths of the men commemorated on their local war memorials.

They delivered the information cards to the houses from which the men left for the war, in hopes that the present occupants would display them in the windows in early November.

This is a repeat of a 2014 idea from Rebecca Carter, a teacher at the then Hothfield Junior School in Silsden, who was thrilled with the response from householders after her pupils created posters.

Several residents wrote to the school saying they had had no idea that a soldier had once lived in their house, and how touched they had been by the initiative.

This year Mrs Carter has recruited other schools in the area for the initiative, to make Poppy Day a little more real for the children.
