SIR - I must apologise to anyone who has contributed to the Poppy Appeal via the collecting bottles in Wetherspoon and Alexander’s in Skipton as these were stolen in the early evening of November 5.
Shameful as this is, I feel that whoever is responsible should be pitied for their lack of compassion and understanding of the meaning of Remembrance.
In the centenary year of the end of that appalling and futile conflict it is sad to find that there are some who feel no pride in the sacrifices made for them and whose greed is such that it enables them to, blatantly, take money destined for such a worthy cause.
However, we may have lost some much needed money but our community in Craven can survive this betrayal and be proud of the results of its efforts this year.
My heartfelt thanks to all who have helped in this year’s campaign.
