SKIPTON Market has received a number of prestigious accolades - and now it is in the running for the cream of the crop - the nation's favourite market.

Last year, it was named ‘Best Small Outdoor Market’ in the Great British Market Awards and, earlier this year, the town’s Christmas market was voted ‘Best Large Speciality Market’.

Now, traders are asking for support as the market aims to be named as ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ at the latest industry awards.

Market manager, Stefan Bodnarczuk, said: “The overall Britain’s Favourite Market award is based on votes registered by local people and visitors to the market. Last year we were delighted to be named in the top six in the whole of the UK – but we didn’t quite make the number one spot. With everyone's help we’d love to put that right this year.”

He added: “Skipton Market makes an important contribution to the local economy, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the town each year. Maintaining our profile through awards such as these helps ensure that those important visitors keep coming."

The Great British Market Awards are organised each year by The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).

Mr Bodnarczuk said: “We know that we are currently in the running again – and with just a little extra push we can achieve that coveted top spot. All votes will be very much appreciated.”

The winner of Britain’s Favourite Market will be announced at a NABMA conference in January.
