AROUND 100 people made their way to the 'Big Stone' above High Bentham to see the WW1 centenary beacon being lit and to hear a prayer.
The beacon was organised by Bentham Town Council and was made by Peter Hird. The event formed part of the weekend's commemorations in the district.
As part of the Remembrance weekend ,on Saturday, November 10 in the Methodist Hall, the Bentham Refugee Support Group thought about the horrors of war today.
The group welcomed Ali B from, Lancaster, seeking asylum from the war in Yemen.
He spoke of his personal account of the historical background and causes of the current war in one of the poorest countries of the Middle East.
Formerly known as Aden, under British Rule, it has been ravaged by war for the past three years.
