SALLY Goodman jointly organised, hosted and performed in a house concert in Skipton to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

There was an audience of 43 who were most appreciative of the performances and £968 was raised, both from donations on the night and offline donations from those who could not attend.

Performers were Sally, mezzo; Helen Parkin, soprano, from London; Sharon Wilson , soprano, from Skipton, and with with accompaniment from Deborah Mashiter, from Addingham. Joining them was Leeds-based and internationally renowned jazz singer Louise Gibbs.

Louise is a jazz singer, composer, and teacher who has led and recorded five albums. She has taught and given workshops at every major conservatoire and university music department in the country, and currently teaches singing for the Universities of Leeds, Chester and Sheffield.

Helen studied both piano and singing, has worked with the BBC Singers, and now teaches singers in the South-East and is also involved with four local choirs as an advisor.

Sharon studied voice and piano at college in Leeds and with singing teachers in UK, Kenya and Russia where she lived for many years until returning to the UK in 2016.

Sally has been singing all her life, and since moving to Skipton in 2013 she has studied under Hannah Mason and has sung with Pinsuti Chamber choir and Skipton Choral Society. She has been the soloist in John Rutter’s “Feel the Spirit” with the Grassington Singers and Karl Jenkin’s “The Armed Man” with Skipton Choral and taken other solo roles with all three choirs. In April, she organised, and sang in, a concert that raised over £1800 for charity.

Deborah’s favourite instrument has always been the piano, but she is an accomplished recorder player, a ‘lapsed’ flautist and also dabbles with the church organ. She also enjoys singing and sang with Ilkley Choral Society for 13 years before joining Skipton Choral Society in September 2017.

The charity was chosen because Sally’s husband has early onset Alzheimer’s and co-organiser, Helen’ Pritchard’s mum also has the disease.
