THE Bells of Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, will ring out on Sunday to celebrate the 90th birthday of former Skipton GP Dr Digby Burton.
Holy Trinity ringers will attempt a full peal, taking approximately three and a quarter hours from 4pm to around 7pm on November 18.
Dr Burton is known to many Skipton residents as he was a popular GP at the Fisher Medical Centre until his retirement 30 years ago.
He is also well known in ringing circles having been a ringer since 1945 to 73 years. Most of these were at Holy Trinity, only retiring from ringing this week.
For 47 years between 1964 and 2011, he was tower captain.
His contribution to ringing in Skipton and the Diocese of Bradford was recognised by an invitation to a Buckingham Palace garden party in the 1990s.
