A SECOND annual trail-running event in aid of Manorlands has been hailed as a huge success.

Nearly 1,000 people took part in Run Bolton Abbey.

And around £29,500, before costs, was raised for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Event lead, Molly Ralphson, a community fundraiser at Manorlands, said the feedback from participants had been overwhelmingly positive.

“Last year we had issues with runners having to queue at stiles but gates had been installed instead this time so there were no problems,” she added.

“The whole day went very smoothly and I’ve had lots of e-mails from people saying how much they enjoyed the event.

“Runners found the route quite tough, and the conditions were wet, but it didn’t seem to put anyone off.

“We’re certainly looking at holding the event again next year – on November 10.”

Participants were offered a choice of four routes, around the Bolton Abbey estate.

There were 10k, ten-mile and half-marathon runs using some trails not normally accessible to the public.

A more sedate 2.4-mile fun run, which made its way alongside the Wharfe to the priory and then returned on the other side of the river, was also held.

Chip timing was provided and all finishers received a bespoke medal and treat from Keelham Farm Shop.

Main sponsor was Skipton-based Midgley Motors, and other partners in the event included the Bolton Abbey Estate, with help on the day from Skipton Athletics Club volunteers.

Thanks were expressed to everyone who gave their support.

With the event taking place on Armistice Day, there was a silent tribute and the Last Post was played.

The biggest entry – 443 – was in the 10k. First to finish was Scott Manning, in 43 minutes 31 seconds. The winning lady was April Caufield, in 50mins 34secs.

Winner of the ten-mile run was Istvan Jacso, in 01:07:15. First lady was Kimberley Reeve in 01:30:22.

In the half-marathon, Roger Comllas took the honours in 01:33:23. Winning lady was Daisy Glover in 01:37:14.
