Huddersfield YMCA 3rds 26 Wharfedale 4ths 7

WHARFEDALE put up a good fight after travelling to Huddersfield with only 11 men, but they were eventually finished off by a pair of late tries from the hosts in their 26-7 defeat.

Huddersfield had an abundance of players and lent four men to make up two full squads ahead of kick off.

Wharfedale went on the attack straight away and after five minutes of good interplay, took an early lead with a try from Pat O'Brien, converted by Mark Tywang.

Spurred on, Wharfedale carried on attacking the Huddersfield line and just came up short of a second score.

After 25 minutes, Huddersfield had some good possession and found their speedy young winger out wide who scored a try, with the conversion levelling the score.

Just before half-time, Huddersfield produced a similar move, which again found the winger, to take a 14-7 lead into the break.

The second half saw both sides playing good open rugby, trying to find the next score. Wharfedale had a number of good strong runs only stopped by last ditch tracking.

Huddersfield got the next converted try with 10 minutes remaining. Wharfedale went on the offensive again trying to turn the game around, but Huddersfield scored a breakaway try with two minutes left to seal the game.

It was a good sporting encounter by all who took part.
