SIR - The white poppy controversy continues despite the enlightening and mostly supportive correspondence earlier in the year.

I and some friends made a mostly white poppy wreath with two red and one purple poppy (for animals) which I placed at the War Memorial in Skipton the night before the Remembrance Service on November 11. The message in the centre read 'Remember too the bereaved, those made homeless, the 'connies' and the animals.' Nothing too controversial, no intention to offend anyone. The next day after the Remembrance Service we went to look at all the wreaths but not a white one in site.

I don't know who removed it, however I would like it returned so that in future, I and others, who wish to remember those not immediately involved in the fighting but caught up in the horror of war, can remember them in our own gentler and inoffensive way.
