SIR - I have just read the article in the Craven Herald (November, 22) entitled "Watch out for bikes on road" plea and felt the usual frustration about this subject. How many more accidents will happen before all cyclists are by law forced to wear high visibility jackets? It's no good them complaining about drivers not seeing them if they insist on wearing dark or black clothes, which so many still do. I agree that there should be respect on the roads and lanes between drivers and cyclists, but I know there will be many drivers out there who, like me, so often have to avoid cyclists who are nearly invisible unless in bright sunlight and they do not always have clearly visible lights on the bike either.
Message to all cyclists. For your own safety always wear a hi-vis jacket every time you go out on your bike.
