Sir - The refusal of planning permission at Nutstile House Farm (new house on site of ruined home refused, Craven Herald, November 29) was clearly correct under the planning rules. The rules however are straight out of Alice's Wonderland - barmy! We're short of affordable homes for local people but we'd rather have an eyesore than return to use a location where local people once lived. No we don't want random new-builds in open countryside, but please can we have rules with more pragmatism, allowing derelict former homes to be rebuilt as affordable housing for locals.
