NIGHT-time diversions are to be put in place while repairs are made to Coniston Cold bridge.

The bridge, on the A65, is to be closed for five nights following damage caused by a road accident involving a car in September.

The work will take place between 7pm and 5am from December 10 to 14 to recover stone and to rebuild the parapet.

A signposted diversion will be in place during the work.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank people for their patience while these essential repairs are carried out.

“In view of the fact that this historic bridge has suffered regular damage caused by vehicle strikes, the county council is taking forward a project that would deliver a new, wider structure alongside the existing bridge, subject to the necessary funding becoming available in the future.”
