THE youngest member of Craven Speakers Club was named winner of the prestigious Yorkshire Dales area speech competition.

Abhay Nambiar, 14, impressed the judges with his speech 'say yes to technology' at the contest held at Baildon Hall on Saturday.

Fellow member of the Skipton based club, Sylvia Walker, from Steeton, was also a close second in the evaluation section of the event.

She provided feedback on Sarah Daniels contribution “Ghost Town” on the current demise of Britain’s high street shops.

Abhay, a pupil at Ermysted's Grammar School, was put forward to the competition after winning the club speech competition in October.

Along with fellow club members and Ermysted's pupils, Jude Owers and Torin Ziebol, a speakers club has been set up at their school.

The club meets at the Soroptimists Room, Otley Street, Skipton every other Monday at 7.30pm.
