THERE were smiles all round as good causes benefited from the latest comedy night organised by a Cowling outdoor centre.

High Adventure welcomed Dan Nightingale, Justine Moorhouse and Mark Nelson for a performance recently at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton.

The event raised £6,889 for Petal Cancer Research, Motor Neurone Disease Association, and local charities that included the Hive Nurture Room at Riddlesden St Mary’s Primary School, which received £900.

In addition, High Adventure staff member Steph McGowan ‘braved the shave’ for Macmillan Cancer Support at the comedy night, raising more than £2,000.

High Adventure administrator Rachel Wilson said: “The fabulously funny comedians were brilliant.”

The next charity comedy night will be on Friday, May 17 at the Rendezvous Hotel. Doors and bar open at 7pm and the comedy performances start an hour later.

The event will again be held in aid of Petal Cancer Research, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and local charities. Tickets cost £15.

Master of ceremonies for the night will again be the “one-man comedy machine” Dan Nightingale.

Also performing will be Steve Shanyaski, described as a uniquely funny comedy heavyweight, and Danny McLoughlin who is regarded as a “super funny” comedy genius.

Steve has rapidly established himself throughout the UK following performances at venues such as the Comedy Store and the Glee Club.

His act revolves around helping people survive modern life, acting as a “walking, talking Dummies Guide” with a bucket load of charm, surreal and silly material, and brilliant comedy songs.

A spokesman said: “His whirlwind performances and thrilling routines have constantly proven a hit with even the quietest crowds, the key to his act being his energy and silliness.”

Sharp material and quick wits have seen Danny McLoughlin establish himself as a top stand-up comic, with a particular reputation as an MC for events such as the Edinburgh Comedy Awards Galas.

During his career Danny has supported several top acts on tour including Sean Lock, Micky Flanagan, Sarah Millican and Doc Brown.

On TV he has appeared on One Night Stand for Channel Dave and the Premier League Show for BBC Two, and he recently took to the radio to co-host Jason Manford’s Sunday morning show for Absolute Radio.

Last summer Danny debuted his latest show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, entitled ‘01/02’, to packed-out rooms throughout the month-long run.

At the most recent comedy night, several businesses across Craven donated prizes for the raffle, including 22 The Square in Cross Hills, the Bay Horse in Cowling, and the Old White Bear in Cross Hills.
