STUDENTS at West Craven High School who have displayed dedication to their studies and achieved academic excellence were rewarded at the school’s Star Awards, held at Colne Muni.

Awards were handed out to current students from Years 7 to 11 for their service to the school or local community and their academic, creative or sporting performances.

Current Year 12s and West Craven alumni also attended the ceremony, to pick up their GCSE certificates and awards for their outstanding academic and sporting achievements.

Proud parents and families watched on as the certificates were collected and they also enjoyed live musical performances by the academy’s choir and music group.

Winners on the night included Alex Mason, who was presented with the award for Overall Academic Achievement. Alex achieved four grade nines in his GCSE and had the highest progress scores in the school. Former head girl Daisy Hill won the Art Award after achieving the highest grade in art in the school, two grades above her predicted score.

West Craven Principal Anne Bonney said: “It was fantastic to once again celebrate the very best of the GCSE results from our students who sat their exams in the summer at the same time as recognising a small sample of the excellence we see in school every day.”
