LAST Tuesday, saw an innovative approach being taken by Gargrave CE Primary School in its delivery of the National Curriculum.

With the help of Skipton Brass the children were able to explore instruments, music and social history as part of a cross-curricular event delivered by the band and its musical director, Jack Smith.

Ethan McMahon, Year 5, said: "I really enjoyed playing the instruments and asking them questions."

Sarah Paul, band member and secretary for the group said: "It was a pleasure to be among so many enthusiastic young people and a joy to see their reactions to being able to 'play' a brass instrument.' All involved were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the children.

A spokesman for the school said: "There is a vast array of talent in our local area and we are lucky that the community is often willing to share its passion and knowledge for its area of expertise with us. It was definitely an afternoon that inspired the children and one they will never forget."
