A CEILIDH night at Skipton Town Hall organised by the town's Fire House Dance raised more than a thousand pounds for charity.

Junior members of the studio performed a show case dance to music provided by South Craven's Thom Hardaker's Ceilidh band.

Howard Bullock, founder of Fire House Dance, based in Coach Street, said the annual event had been a great night, with £1,089 raised for Cancer Support Yorkshire in Skipton.

"It was an absolutely brilliant night of dancing and celebrating everything that Fire House Dance is all about," he said.

"Well done to everyone who took part in our showcase and everyone who came along to support a very worthwhile local charity Cancer Support Yorkshire. I would just also like to thank everyone who makes this annual event so great."

Helen Gatiss, community engagement officer at Cancer Support Yorkshire, said: "It was lovely to meet up with some of the dancers who took part on the night, we are amazed by the amount raised, £1,089 is just fantastic and means so much to our charity.

"We are a small independent charity and rely heavily on donations like this to continue our work supporting local people affected by cancer. It’s great that Fire House Dance organised the event and that their supporters went along on the night to make it such a success and donated to Cancer Support Yorkshire's Skipton centre."

Fire House Dance runs dance classes for children and adults, from 18 months old.
