SKIPTON Mart auctioneers have visited regional butchers who purchased the principals at the annual high profile annual Christmas primestock shows last month, accompanied by farmers who were responsible for the champions.

In the north-east, supreme prime cattle champion buyer Kitson and Sons Butchers welcomed breeder John Stephenson, who farms in Bordley, to Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen in Crathorne. Owner Anthony Kitson also purchased the champion prime pigs at Skipton.

The other ports of call were all in Lancashire. Ian Lancaster, of Wiswell, Clitheroe, breeder of the title-winning Christmas prime lambs, met buyer George Cropper Jnr, who owns and runs Sandersons Butchers in Baxenden.

K and J Green Butchers, in Heskin, Chorley, hosted a visit from beef farmer Robert Critchley, of nearby Hutton, who was responsible for the un-haltered prime cattle champion purchased for the first time by owner David Green.

Accrington Market also formed part of the road trip to view the reserve supreme champion prime lambs bought by G and C Cropper Family Butchers from the Leyburn-based Brown family. The shop is run by father and daughter George and Clare Cropper. The latter lives and farms locally in Long Preston. Accompanying the farmers were CCM’s Jeremy Eaton and Ted Ogden.
