ONE of Skipton's best-known and most tireless workers for charity has been thanked after his record-breaking efforts in the run-up to last Christmas.

After missing the previous two festive seasons following knee surgery, Skipton's 'Mr Sport' Roger Ingham was back doing what he does best - going on his 'banter and bucket' Yuletide rounds of the district's pubs, clubs and party venues to raise cash for children's charity Candlelighters.

And for Christmas 2018, he raised what the leukaemia charity's fundraisers have called a '"truly phenomenal" total of £5,368.67.

Roger, a top class fell runner and all-round athlete in his younger days, has now raised a grand total of more than £70,000 for Candlelighters, as well as many thousands of pounds for other charities in a fundraising career going back five decades.

He said: "It was great to be back helping such a great charity after having to miss out for a couple of years.

"The people at Candlelighters and myself are of course, delighted with such a grand total. Our sincerest thanks go to everyone who supported us - to all the 'mine hosts' and managements who allowed us to collect on their premises and to all the wonderful folk who contributed so generously."
