NEIGHBOURS in a Sutton street raised more than £1,000 for charity with a festive lights display.

Delighted Rowan Garth residents have announced that £1,080 was collected, to be shared between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, British Heart Foundation and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Homes were adorned with outdoor lights throughout the Christmas period, and visitors were invited to make a donation.

The opening night saw Sutton’s Got Brass entertain with seasonal music and carols, and there was a tombola.

“During the evenings until the New Year – helped by good weather – there was a continuous flow of sightseers enjoying the lights on foot or by car,” said a spokesman.

“The sound of children laughing and chatting with excitement was wonderful and people were very generous.

“We would like to thank all those who contributed and helped in any way.”
